"I no longer put off planning for the future because I know I have a long, bright one ahead of me."
At the age of 14, Joey Jean Farmer was suffering from a severe migraine that led to the discovery of an inoperable arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in her brain, putting her life in imminent danger. While navigating the tumultuous journey of treatments, she met Dr. Michael T. Lawton, who offered her hope through a procedure to make her AVM operable.
Following multiple treaments, surgeries, and a stroke, Joey Jean overcame her medical challenges. She was inspired by the exceptional care she received throughout her journey and pursued a career in nursing. Today, Joey Jean is achieving her dream of aiding others as a pediatric ICU nurse.
The Barrow Aneurysm and AVM Research Center, led by Dr. Lawton, aims to develop new, more effective, and less invasive treatments for aneurysms and AVMs, so more patients like Joey Jean have the chance to achieve their dreams. All gifts will be matched up to $100,000 by a generous donor.
